Build An Easy Printers Cabinet

February 14, 2016 12 Comments

For the longest time I’ve wanted a printers cabinet. I’ve been seeing them all over pinterest & in stores. Thing is, that piece you see above, is 2319.08 and that’s before delivery & border costs.

So, I’m sorry.. I’d have to sell one of my kids to afford that. I begged and begged my husband and finally he made one. It cost us about 374.00 in materials, but if you live in a city or in the states I’m sure you could source the supplies/wood at cheaper costs. Still, 2319 down to 374?! WOW.
Here’s the tutorial we followed for ours, it was super super easy, just a little time consuming. Shanty2chic also has a great tutorial for a two door console.printers cabinet, restoration hardware printers cabinet, printers cabinet, easy diy printers cabinet, how to build a printers cabinet

How To Build An Easy Printers Cabinet

I’m not going to lie, I kind of like ours better than the RH model. We tried to make ours chunky like theirs, but it feels sanded better & we have matte varnish on ours.
We decided to forgo the drawers as we don’t really use them. Our drawers are just places we hide junk. So that cut down on time.

We stained this piece in our custom ‘Beachwood‘. A mixture of stains we use. it’s actually our most popular stains our clients pick. We spray painted the knobs in Oil Rubbed Bronze & then I distressed the piece lightly with our sander to give it a more vintage vibe.
All-in-all it turned out perfectly. I didn’t have high expectations on this piece as it really looks more complicated than it actually is.

What do you think? Are you loving on this printers cabinet?
We will be using this as our media stand, but it could be used as a sideboard in a room, living room, hallway.. anywhere!

Where are the instructions? I would love to build one, I have been looking at the one from RH but haven’t been able to justify the $$$.

Thanks Jessica. It made it sound like your tutorial was different than the shanty to chic variation.

Hi there, new to the site, love it! I am also an RH fan, I have the St. James Bed, But couldnt pull the trigger on the dressers. I was wondering if you would share the recipe for your finish as it matches our bed almost perfectly. Thank you, Melissa

[…] This is our beloved media stand ( knock off Restoration Hardware that we built ) we actually ended up selling it to a client and then as the freight company came to pick it up, it was dropped and the doors and siding were damaged. So the doors don’t really function anymore, but it still looks beautiful. See tutorial here. […]
