You guys! This modern narrow hallway makeover was SUCH a fun project!! I get so amped up with a project that looks THIS GOOD but is incredibly cheap to do.
I wanted to redo this Narrow Hallway because it honestly was a dark dingy grey dungeon. It felt cold and depressing as there is no windows and it’s really narrow. Only 33″ Wide! I knew I wanted to make a big impact without making it feel too busy.. so I came up with the idea of painting it two toned.
My mom made a comment that I was bringing it back to the 1990’s when beige and two toned walls were “in”, but I feel like this is a much more modern take! What do you think?
Funny enough, I got some flack when I told my Instagram followers I was painting my walls beige. But I think it totally cozies up the space! I was going for a coastal theme while still feeling modern and farmhousey.
I had actually planned to just do the two toned walls with nothing separating them. Even though the line I taped off was super straight, but something felt missing – like it needed something else. So we bought a 40 dollar bundle of 1×3 wall moulding and planked the whole hallway. I think it makes it feel so much more high end and finished.
I also really wanted some sort of stool or bench at this landing spot between the kids bathroom and room, but since this space is so narrow it had to be small enough that it wouldn’t get in the way.
I had found this bench on Pinterest and I knew I wanted Glen to build one. He wants me to put a disclaimer up that he INTENDED for it to look so worn and uneven. He was trying to replicate the picture I sent him.
As you can see that bench looks like it’s rotting and I wanted that look. Sadly we didn’t have any wood that beat up, so we used some old greyed out wood we had in our garage and beat it up!
For this entry we used Simple White from Benjamin Moore and Maple Peacan from Cloverdale Paint
As for the empty walls – I didn’t want to put anything too busy on them. Glen really wanted to build shelves for each side of the wall and have hanging plants, but I knew that would look way too busy. I wanted some mug shots of our kids in black and white. We had our photos printed on photo paper at a local print shop ( ABC Printing + Signs ) and the frames are 20″x20″ oak frames. I had planned to make custom mats for them, but I decided the photos are perfect blown up full size.
If wanting to to the same, please shoot on a DSLR camera at highest resolution or raw. I shot on raw and the details are incredible blown up at 20×20″
I also used SMAL Presents and the Black + White Filter.
But the starting off piece for this whole space was this rug. We actually have this identical rug in our entrance which you can see from our hallway. I love seagrass and this rug is such good quality that it will last for years.
From there I picked my paint colours, design and everything else fell into place.
As for the lighting, I already had it all installed. I will have all links below:
