At this point in the game ( December 15th ), you’re probably like, why is she making ANOTHER Christmas garland? Well, 2020 is the year to pull out all the stops to spark joy, and real greenery REALLY sparks joy for me.
Since I had to decorate in really early November for Real Homes Magazine, I couldn’t use real greenery, but our yard is full of it, and I wanted to style our mantle again before the season ends.
I made an entire reel so you can see how I made the garland and how I got it to be so bulky. I also describe how I got the shape on the mantle ( In three different sections )

Real greenery typically lasts about 3-4 weeks, and then it’s crisp to the bone, but that’ okay because it looks amazing. You can also spritz it with a water bottle to give it a bit of extra life!
For my real Christmas garland, I used fresh cypress from our yard. We have huge 10 feet tall hedges surrounding our yard, so there is definitely no greenery shortage. But if you do not have greenery local to you, you can get it at places like Home Depot, supermarket etc

To attach it to our mantle, we used a staple gun. Since our mantle Is made out of pine as you cannot really see the holes. But for those who cannot do this, command hooks work awesome!
The other key to a real Christmas garland is to make sure all the branches are going in the same direction. I’m sure this is self-explanatory, but my favourite part of the entire garland is the whisps that are hanging down.

Are you a real Christmas garland fan or a faux Christmas garland fan?
