Hey & Happy Sunday!
It’s been a hot second since I was last on the blog as we’ve been whirling around lately and we’ve had some big things happen… but I’ll save that for another blog.
Today I wanted to blog about the Renters Board and Batten we put up a week ago. I’ve always died over board and batten in homes but being a renter, I didn’t / haven’t wanted to damage the walls.
Well, we constructed a kind-of-easy way to put up board and batten with very very limited holes in the walls. Read six tiny nail gun holes. If you’ve ever seen a nail gun hole, they’re pretty minuscule to the eye.
Basically, we purchased a 1/4″ smooth plywood and glued all of the planks onto that. Once they were 100% dry, we hung the entire wall piece with six nails into the wall. Once we’re tired of this faux board and batten wall, we can easily take it down and fill the six small holes. See? Super easy.. and it honestly looks the the board and batten is part of the existing wall – you cannot even tell it’s plywood!

Anyone can make this wall. If you have no tools at home, you can ask the men at the hardware store to cut your plywood 1×4’s + 1×3’s for you. If you look at my wall, I alternated 1×4’s and 1×3’s as I didn’t want a symmetrical look. But you could do all 1×3’s to make things super easy.
The main reason we alternated was plywood only comes in 4′ lengths, so we had a division between two of the pieces that we had to put a vertical plank on. If we used all 1×3’s, they wouldn’t have been evenly spaced apart. So doing it this way, we were able to fudge the planks so they were evenly spaced apart.
Also, if you do not have a nail gun, no problem! You can use screws, but keep in mind there will be much larger holes and you will have to fill and sand the holes on your wall piece.

Let me know what you think of our faux renters board and batten!
Thanks for stopping by!

Your board and batten looks awesome…what an ingenious idea…what color is the green on that wall?
Thanks
I’d love to know the green paint color too please,
