This blog post is sponsored by Schlage Canada, but all words are my own.
Since we moved into our home two years ago, I really wanted to paint the three doors and change out the hardware. The doors were not in the best condition as they were only primed and all had mismatching hardware.
If you want to see how our patio door looked prior to us painting it black, click here.
The garage door, den and laundry doors are all in eye view of each other so I wanted to get matching hardware after I had painted the doors.
A lot of people don’t realize how simple changes can make a room feel so much more high end.
A few weeks back, I posted a Tiktok that went viral and I had so many people shame me for putting so much money into our rental. When in actuality, I only bought paint and new hardware. It’s made such a world of difference in our home and made it feel a lot more high end than it did when we first started renting it.
So I thought it would be great to show you how you can update your own doors and hardware to transform your spaces.

How To Paint Interior + Exterior Doors
When painting a door, you want to use a large microfiber roller and do long strokes ( I like to go the full length of the door ). I also like to use satin paint so it’s durable if you need to wipe it down. Once your door is completely rolled, take your same roller, without adding additional paint and lightly go over the entire door in full strokes to even out any minor lines.
I promise you, it will look professional once it’s dry.

If you’re painting a door with squares or dimension, I like to paint the parts that a roller can’t get to with an angle paint brush and then go over the door with a large roller.
The key is using a large roller to roll your door. You do not want streaks or brush strokes.

The Hardware We Used From Schlage Canada
We installed the Latitude Lever with Greenwich Trim Hall and Closet and the Single Cylinder Deadbolt in Matte Black.
It always blows my mind how a little paint and new handles can transform a space. Such an inexpensive change has made a world of difference.
We always purchase our handles from Schlage Canada as they’ve been making beautiful handles for over 100 years!

Simple Changes That Make A Room Feel High End
- Paint the walls. I love white, cream or bright colours to open a space
- Paint Doors White or Clean Them
- Install New Hardware
- Replace Light + Outlet Covers
- Wash + Touch up base boards
- Install New Lighting
Updating the three doors has made my office and laundry room feel so much more high end – it’s all in the small changes guys!
I also think it’s important to utilize hardware that is sturdy and good quality so it will last for years to come.

If you’re wanting to do renovations but feel overwhelmed on where to start, painting the walls and doors and changing out hardware is an easy and low cost.
