Simple Winter Decor for Right After Christmas

January 1, 2020 2 Comments

I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and New Years Eve! This year, we decided to keep our Christmas decor up until January 1st – which will be our new tradition going forward. My theory – less rushing through the seasons and really try to soak up every minute. I wanted to hop on today to give you a few tips on simple winter decor for right after Christmas.

I did a similar blog here and it’s now going viral again a year later. We all hate that time of year right after we take down our cozy Christmas decor and the twinkle lights and glow are gone.

What do you fill your space with? How do you make it cozy?

Right before Christmas I received a subscription box from Decorated and using items from the winter box I’ve cozied up our home for the New Year.

I think the biggest thing for me is using lots of textiles in our home. When you take away your cozy big Christmas tree, lights and decor your space will look super empty. I like to use cozy throw blankets, down pillows in different shades of creams, whites and prints. I use plants as well to make a space feel a little bit more lived in. Greenery honestly does so much for a space – also it’s double duty as it purifies your air!

If you look high up on my shelves I keep a few pieces that I also use in my Christmas decor. Little white houses and items like candlesticks can be used in winter decor without looking too Christmasy.

I also like using signs, books, wooden decor, textiles, baskets and vases to make a space feel balanced.

A lot of these items you might already have or you can thrift too. The old books you see on my shelving I’ve had for over a decade and they were given to me by my Grandpa who had them since he was a young boy in the 1940’s. Makes for some pretty texture too ๐Ÿ˜‰

I also love love wooden trays that can be used double duty for tea or coffee when guests come over and when you aren’t using it, a cute platter on a side or coffee table.

The ceramic trees I actually spray painted. They came in shades of green and for my space I just love using whites to decorate. I live on Vancouver Island and our mountain is covered in snow capped trees – so this piece of decor doesn’t feel Christmasy to me at all, but again, can be used in Christmas decor too!

On the other side of the room it’s very similar with a winter pillow to cap off the space.

I do like to infuse a rare bit of colour as you can see from the chair, pillow and throw blanket ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope you all have a lovely New Years Day and let me know what you think of my simple winter decor and if you struggle with decorating with decorating this time of year too!
