Hey and welcome to the blog today. I knew I said I was going to blog every day this month and then that all happened.. and if you don’t know what ‘that’ is, scroll back a post. Yep…
I haven’t been on my social media much in the last few weeks and I’ve been really focusing on myself. Part of me just wants to leave the internet world. Leave my blog, leave my Instagram and just be a mom.. but I know that my heart will hurt. This little corner of the internet is my one place to be me – share my creativity and my DIY’s. The reason why I started this blog three years ago was because I could tell my facebook friends were getting really tired of me constantly sharing all my DIY’s, salvaged finds and room changes.. so I started this blog. It’s been the one place that I enjoy coming to just be me and create. It’s my virtual journal.
So I honestly do not know what the future holds. I do know that I will be keeping more to myself and not being as vulnerable because people seem to like to stomp all over that – and I get hurt way too easily. For a person that is so ‘out there’, I seem to get overly hurt by what a random person might have to say. I gotta work on that.
The last few weeks I’ve been spending a lot more time in my bible and a lot less time on social media. It’s been SO GOOD for my soul. I’ve also been watching Marie Kondo on Netflix and basically organizing every dang nook and cranny in our home. Simple Spring Living Room
Today I just had the urge to put away all my twinkle lights and do a fresh simple spring look in our living room. I sprayed my wall sconces in antique gold and threw some tulips in my clay pots, and put our gold candlesticks back up on the mantle. It looks fresh – yet still very cozy. PS, that mirror is my 15.00 find that I got on Marketplace last November. So many pieces in our home I snagged for dirty cheap on Craigslist or Marketplace.
The Corbels holding the mantle up are actually from Pier 1 a few years back, but they still have them and they’re part of the Magnolia line. I actually linked them below for you. I painted mine pure white – they used to be distressed!
The sconces used to be black and although I loved them, they just seemed so dark & who am I kidding, I just got bored of them! So I bought a can of spray paint called “Antique Gold” and sprayed them to give a new look + a brighter vibe for spring just around the corner.
I also grabbed three tulips from Home Depot – they were 2 dollars each and I planted them into these existing terracotta pots I already had.
I feel like I need to mention it every time I photograph my fireplace because it bugs me so so much. We planked the fireplace with Plank + Mill wood last July and it was perfect… but due to the heat of the fireplace, it caused the wood to move a bit and now it’s all jagged – so we NEED to put some moulding up on the top, bottom and sides to make it look a bit more finished.
I know you probably didn’t notice, but I did and I just had to say something.
As for this sofa – I always get a ton of questions about it. This was our 100.00 score we got off of craigslist a few years back. It’s the Ikea Ektorp Sofa. I emailed Ikea asking if it was possible to send us new seat cushions because the old models weren’t as a supportive as the newer models. Not only did they send us FREE seat cushions, but also a brand new white cover… so if you ever buy this sofa, know Ikea has amazing customer service! It’s been the best Craigslist find ever! I usually throw it in the wash every two weeks. ( lots of kids 😉 )
The mud cloth cushions I bought an astounding four years ago from my friend over at Townsend Rowe Home and that seafoam throw blanket I purchased when we lived on the Mainland in 2013 from Homesense. I like to purchase classic pieces that I will use years to come! Because you can’t get tired of classic pieces!
As for the DIY Pottery Barn Look Alike Picture Shelves, click here to see our DIY for them! All of the frames are frames we already had, or were super vintage frames from my mom that I painted! Simple Spring Living Room
People always say how my homes look like I spend so much.. well, I don’t. I actually don’t even have money to do so. Literally everything in my home is DIY’D, gotten from Marketplace & Craigslist, Vintage, Built etc. The only thing in this room that I actually bought was the light fixture – I purchased with my Christmas money from my family.
It’s possible to have a beautiful home while spending very little or nothing.. it just takes elbow grease, planning and creativity! If you’re interested in seeing another home that is a bit more modern boho, check out my friend Addy’s space over on Instagram here.
She also spends literally nothing on her room revamps. I think we both feed off of each other. She just redid he bedroom for under 200 dollars.
I also thought I would mention that the cowhide rug is from Loloi Rugs. They graciously gifted it to me and we love it so much. Adds such a cozy texture to the room. Here’s the link to purchase it on sale. If you’re Canadian, you can also find it on Amazon, but it is double the price. Simple Spring Living Room
Click the above photos to shop the items. I make a VERY small commission if you decide to purchase. Simple Spring Living Room
I hope this post inspires you to go flush out your home and be inspired with pieces you already have. You can decorate for spring with simply things like potted tulips, vintage mirrors, candles and layers.
Have an amazing week
