This blog has been one of my most requested blogs over the last few years. I was waiting until I got a clothing rack to do this blog so you could see what my personal capsule wardrobe looks like.
I decided to focus on a spring capsule wardrobe, but honestly, a lot of my pieces go from season to season and summer time I switch out some of the longer tops and jeans for short sleeve T’s and shorts.
We live on Vancouver Island so we have pretty mild weather. I get if you’re in a climate with really cold or really hot temperates where you might need a bigger wardrobe switch up.

So first thing is first, the rule of thumb in a capsule wardrobe is there is about 37 pieces ( give or take )
In the words of Rector, a capsule wardrobe is “a mini wardrobe made up of really versatile pieces that you totally love to wear.” Each season, you clear your closet except for a set number of pieces to be in your capsule wardrobe. Rector’s golden number is 37 items, but it varies by season. Your capsule collection is made up of a combination of items you already own and love to wear, as well as new, quality items that you can shop for once a season. I’m the kind of person that once I become obsessed with a piece of clothing, I wear it over and over again. I only have a few selected pairs of jeans and a few basic pieces and I switch out my accessories and jackets for a different look.
Above I linked my exact jeans, skirt and romper that I wear. If it takes you to a US or Canadian link, go to the other duplicate link I’ve tagged.
I’ve link both CA and US links.

As for coats I have one long felt coat, a jean jacket and a bomber that I seem to cycle through. Please note, I do also have a puffer jacket and a cargo jacket in storage but they’re rarely worn so I didn’t include them in this post.
By changing out your jacket or accessories, it gives your outfit a totally new look! These jeans/shoes I wear on repeat, but I switch out my jacket or sweater often.

I’m having a hard time finding some of my cardigans and jackets to link, but I’ll link what I ca.
Below is a list of my jackets and sweaters that I could link. I’ll also have a list of small shops that I love at the bottom of this post.
Since our weather is so mild and I usually purchase items on sale and wear them for a few years. Some of my items are from past years and I can no longer find the exact article of clothing, but if I’ve found something very similar from the brand, I’ve linked it.
Onto shirts, I’m a plain Jane gal. I’ve tried to get into the trendiness of wearing band T’s or graphic T’s and blouses but that just isn’t me.
I love a plain white or black shirt to dress up with jewelry or an oversized coat.
Below I’ve linked a few staple shirts that I love.
Comfort is the name of the game for me, so if it isn’t super comfy, I probably won’t wear it often.
Most of the tops I literally could not link or find anywhere. The long sleeves I wear a lot are the “Catalina Long Sleeve by Free People” but they’re sold out all over the web as they were popular a few years back

As for accessories and shoes, I’m a pretty simple gal. I do have other shoes that occasionally get worn, but the two you see have been on repeat the last two years. You’ll often see them in my photos. Since you cannot find either from the original sellers, I will link shoes that are similar.
As for the earrings I photographed – they’re all from small local shops in Canada. I linked everything I could through bigger retailers, but when you can shop local or small, do, as it’s putting food on their tables!
Again, I’ll have a list of my fav Canadian small shops for women’s clothing below!

Below is a comprehensive list of where my accessories are from. The only thing I couldn’t find were my shoes – so I found similar options.
A capsule wardrobe is simple: ONLY purchase items you absolutely love that are good quality and you know you will wear time and time again. A lot of my pieces are very versatile and I’ve owned for many years.
Honestly, when I make last minute decisions to shop – those items are usually not great quality, something I don’t really really love or something that ends up being given away & in the landfill down the road.
The best thing about a capsule wardrobes is how much money you will save. Yes, the items are a bit pricier in the beginning, but they last way longer and they will be on constant repeat.
The other thing I love about capsule wardrobes is it takes me under five minutes to decide what I’m going to wear. It used to take me upwards of an hour! I would try on outfit after outfit and never really be happy in what I was wearing.

Here’s a quick diagram from Un-Fancy.com

I hope this gives you a better scope on why capsule wardrobes are so amazing and why you should start one today.
I’ve been doing them since late 2016 when I first read about them in Joanna Gaines first magazine drop!
