I’ve wanted a bench for the end of our bed for what seems like forever. But they were always too short, too wide, ugly pattern etc. This is the Easiest DIY Upholstered Bench and It will make a massive impact in your home!
If you’re new to the blog, let me start by telling you that I’m a bit of a minimalist. Which is good, because we live in the smallest farmhouse ever, see here. I really wanted to do a DIY post for y’all because this is so easy guys, plus, it cost us under 45.00 to make! I was eyeing up a bench on wayfair that I kept putting in my cart & then taking out. It was too small for our bed anyways and too wide.
Then the Rogue Engineer posted their amazing tutorial on this bench & I knew we had to make it! We modified ours quite a bit by making it much longer & using 2×2 white pine instead. Below I’ll be attaching where we found our foam, batting, fabric & nail heads. I really wish we had of taken step-by-step photos for y’all, but we had to work on this at night as we were building for customers all day, so lighting really sucked!

This was a night project. We started shortly after our kids went to bed & did the upholstering and nails while we were watching our favourite Netflix show. We decided to forgo the brace in the middle like Roque has & we put ours under the top. I’m not sure how this will hold up, so after a few kids jump on it, we will see. But we wanted to be able to put baskets & such under our bench.
Now head on over to Rogue Engineer to give them a big like & don’t forget to subscribe to our blog for more DIY & Home Decor! Have you build this stool or a similar stool? I’d love to hear your comments!
How did you use 2×2’s instead of 1×2’s? How did you connect them together?
We did you 2×2’s. I don’t think 1×2’s would stand up. I would also put an additional brace between the legs .
OMG I LOVE THIS!!! What color stain did you use on this bench?
Is the cushion attached to the bench? This is unclear on Rogue’s site as well.
It is. I stapled it under the top.
What were your dimensions since you made it longer? I like the length on your bench. Additionally, how did you use 2x2s instead?
