Happy Monday!
The past two weeks of having only four day work weeks did me some good. I’ve been finding it hard during the week to get anything done. Although I absolutely love snuggling our newest addition ( who now happens to be SIX whole weeks ), he won’t let me put him down at all. So cleaning, blogging, showering or anything of the sort is out of the question, for now. Well, at least until we can get into a schedule.
I happened to snag a few minutes on the weekend to blog about our living room refresh. It looks totally different & I am so excited to have had Pier 1 + Catalina Lighting sponsor this Living Room Spring Refresh.
I’m all about less is more. I guess you could call me a minimalist. It’s kind of comical really because I’m obsessed with farmhouse style. But if you scroll through Pinterest or Instagram you will see that most farmhouse homes are filled to the brim with gorgeous decor. It’s more of a “cluttered” style. But I just can’t do it. I’ve always been this way. I try to decorate with more and I end up going crazy and putting half the decor back in storage.
So, here’s my Spring Refresh with only a few pieces. I have a billion and one pillows but I really like to switch out our pillows constantly. To me, it’s a simple update that doesn’t break the bank ( especially if you’re like me and have a ton in storage ) I also love plants. Plants are one thing that can be extremely cheap, but make a huge impact on a room.
I snagged these adorable little herb plants for 5.00 each and they even came in the cute containers. If you’re Canadian, run out to your nearest Superstore. This is where I got them.
Oh, and a little side note. I often get Canadians emailing or messaging me frustrated that I tag my decor on US sites. I only do this because 89% of my readership is from the States, so it’s only fair that I cater to the majority of my followers. That being said, a lot more stores are starting to ship to Canadian addresses these days, so it’s a win-win!
These lamps are a perfect mix of farmhouse and modern. They aren’t too beat up and they’re slightly weathered. Plus, if you ever get tired of the faux wood look, you can paint them white! I love pieces that I can reuse for years to come.
The throw pillows on the sofa are my favourite. They’re from Pier 1 and they’re oversized, cozy and neutral. You can literally use them in any room of the house. The middle pillow is from the Magnolia Homes line and I’m pretty obsessed over it. I happened to snag a few other Magnolia Homes pieces from Pier 1 too. The white bowl holding my magazines and the corbels.
The sofa table Glen actually just wiped up for me on Saturday. I needed something to stage my lamps on and I didn’t have anything. I absolutely love how it turned out. I told him to only sand off the splinters so it’s extra beat up, just the way I like it!
I knew I wanted to decorate this room with extra farmhouse charm so extra greenery, old games, throws and cozy pillows are a must.
Also, if you follow me on Instagram you will know that we painted the room white on the weekend. We used the color “Alabaster” from Benjamin Moore.
I’ve always loved anything beat up and our coffee table that actually was a dresser, I white washed it and turned it into a coffee table chest. I blogged about it here, last year.
The sofa was a HUGE win. I’ve wanted an Ikea Ektorp sofa for so many years. Well, one came up on Craigslist in excellent condition for only 125 bucks with an extra cover. HUGE STEAL.
Thank you for stopping by the blog today. I hope you enjoyed our little Living Room Spring Refresh. I always love to change up my home. I found out about myself that I need change in my life, and so changing up my home is one way I can incorporate that into my life.
What do you think of the new living room? Are you happy the green is gone? Truth be told, the only reason I didn’t photograph the other side of the room is because one wall is still green. I ran out of time on the weekend. haha!
