The Many Looks Of One Living Room

May 17, 2020 1 Comment

If you guys follow me over on the ‘gram, you would of seen the quick demise of my most favourite possession, our Loloi Symbology Area Rug. This rug was not only beautiful but SO cozy underfoot.

If there’s one thing I now know, it’s that cream / white wool rugs do not mix well with four children. I can’t really blame Rhett for pouring a entire container of Mio on it because I’m the one that decided to put a wool rug in this room when I KNEW I had four busy kids.

Today I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane and show you guys all the looks our living room has had. It’s crazy how a rug can dramatically change a space.

Finding Balance In Everyday Life

August 22, 2018 3 Comments

Hey Friends.

I’ve been really really trying to get on here more. It’s literally such a breath of fresh air for me, but I’m finding I don’t have a ton of time to be on here lately. It’s either a kid that needs me to change a diaper, something is spilled, laundry is piling up or trying to feed four little mouths that gets in the way.

Today as I was cleaning the house and prepping to take photos of my living room for the blog and I caught myself screaming at the kids

“DO NOT touch that!”…”DON’T do that…”

After I was done snapping photos I thought to myself, was it worth it? I mean, I got photos for my blog ( not the best photos, but photos ).  But I had to scream at my  kids in the meantime because they were making each other scream and Brinley almost touched my freshly washed arm chair with her dirty hand. My heart became super heavy as I sat in my empty clean living room. I wish I was super mom and I could do it all & be this lovely little bubble of happiness and patience at all times of the day.

But the fact of the matter is, I’m a stay at home mom and a work at home mom. Those two things might jive well together, but when you have four little humans in a 1500 square foot house and you’re trying to clean, keep them alive and work all.at.the.same.time… my head is spinning just thinking about it all!

I mean, there has to be balance somewhere, right?

This is how I eventually want my living room to look and I think I’m on the right track:

I often find it so hard to find balance in everyday life. I’m not super good at planning and scheduling. I have countless agendas and planning apps and I somehow always fail to use them. I wish I was one of those people who could plan out my day with incremented time slots for certain things, but again so not me. I’m self motivated, but that being said I like to work on my own schedule.

Kids don’t work on your schedule. At all.

In fact, they rarely let you work. I feel like a giant frazzled hot mess express most of the time because I’m trying to squish things into my day that I have no time for like; Putting any time into myself, peeing, cleaning or being a human outside my kids. ( I’m saying this while laughing so don’t take that too seriously. )

So tell me, how do you find balance in every day life? Mamas of 3+ kids I’m talking to you. Because lets face it, I felt like an ENTIRELY new person with my life together when it was just me and the boys. Now with Brinley and Rhett in the mix I feel like my head might explode at any given time. There just isn’t enough mental space 😉

Living Room Spring Refresh

April 9, 2018 2 Comments

Happy Monday!

The past two weeks of having only four day work weeks did me some good. I’ve been finding it hard during the week to get anything done. Although I absolutely love snuggling our newest addition ( who now happens to be SIX whole weeks ), he won’t let me put him down at all. So cleaning, blogging, showering or anything of the sort is out of the question, for now. Well, at least until we can get into a schedule.

I happened to snag a few minutes on the weekend to blog about our living room refresh. It looks totally different & I am so excited to have had Pier 1 + Catalina Lighting sponsor this Living Room Spring Refresh.

I’m all about less is more. I guess you could call me a minimalist. It’s kind of comical really because I’m obsessed with farmhouse style. But if you scroll through Pinterest or Instagram you will see that most farmhouse homes are filled to the brim with gorgeous decor. It’s more of a “cluttered” style. But I just can’t do it. I’ve always been this way. I try to decorate with more and I end up going crazy and putting half the decor back in storage.

So, here’s my Spring Refresh with only a few pieces. I have a billion and one pillows but I really like to switch out our pillows constantly. To me, it’s a simple update that doesn’t  break the bank ( especially if you’re like me and have a ton in storage ) I also love plants. Plants are one thing that can be extremely cheap, but make a huge impact on a room.

I snagged these adorable little herb plants for 5.00 each and they even came in the cute containers. If you’re Canadian, run out to your nearest Superstore. This is where I got them.

Oh, and a little side note. I often get Canadians emailing or messaging me frustrated that I tag my decor on US sites. I only do this because 89% of my readership is from the States, so it’s only fair that I cater to the majority of my followers. That being said, a lot more stores are starting to ship to Canadian addresses these days, so it’s a win-win!

These lamps are a perfect mix of farmhouse and modern. They aren’t too beat up and they’re slightly weathered. Plus, if you ever get tired of the faux wood look, you can paint them white! I love pieces that I can reuse for years to come.

The throw pillows on the sofa are my favourite. They’re from Pier 1 and they’re oversized, cozy and  neutral. You can literally use them in any room of the house. The middle pillow is from the Magnolia Homes line and I’m pretty obsessed over it. I happened to snag a few other Magnolia Homes pieces from Pier 1 too. The white bowl holding my  magazines and the corbels.

The sofa table Glen actually just wiped up for me on Saturday. I needed something to stage my lamps on and I didn’t have anything. I absolutely love how it turned out. I told him to only sand off the splinters so it’s extra beat up, just the way I like it!

I knew I wanted to decorate this room with extra farmhouse charm so extra greenery, old games, throws and cozy pillows are a must.

Also, if you follow me on Instagram you will know that we painted the room white on the weekend. We used the color “Alabaster” from Benjamin Moore.

I’ve always loved anything beat up and our coffee table that actually was a dresser, I white washed it and turned it into a coffee table chest. I blogged about it here, last year.

The sofa was a HUGE win. I’ve wanted an Ikea Ektorp sofa for so many years. Well, one came up on Craigslist in excellent condition for only 125 bucks with an extra cover. HUGE STEAL.

Thank you for  stopping by the blog today. I hope you enjoyed our little Living Room Spring Refresh. I always love to change up my home. I found out about myself that I need change in my life, and so changing up my home is one way I can incorporate that into my life.

What do you think of the new living room? Are you happy the green is gone? Truth be told, the only reason I didn’t photograph the other side of the room is because one wall is still green. I ran out of time on the weekend. haha!

Master Bedroom Reveal – Part Two

March 16, 2018 3 Comments

Guys,

I feel like ever since we got back from the NICU my head has been a bit jumbled and my head hasn’t been where I want it to be. I’ve been thinking baby, feeds and diaper changes and my mind hasn’t been in the game at all. I will have an extensive blog coming soon on Rhetts fast & furious birth and the scary aftermath of it all.. but for now I really wanted to get up a fun playful blog on the last little touches in our Master Bedroom Reveal.

I’ve been crazy blessed to have this room sponsored by so many amazing brands and I have linked the sources at the bottom of this blog.

The last few touches really just put the room together. AHS Lighting played a huge part in making our room feel like a luxury space. The Farmhouse lighting really sets the tone in our bedroom.

As well, I also put up some comforting verse art on the right side of the room and also back in 2014 we had the sign made that I hung on the window above our bed. This master bedroom has become my sacred place and all though it might be a bit too farmhousey for some – I love it. There’s nothing more comforting than the own walls of your bedroom. They house you in your most vulnerable state, and our bedroom is now the epitome of comfort. It was such a delight to bring baby Rhett home to a space that I loved to be in. Especially since I knew the nights would be short and the days would be long.

At the bottom of the blog I will have sources to everything in the room and if wanting to check out part one of our Bedroom Reveal, click here.

The Chandelier and two Bishop lamps are from AHS Lighting. Which I’m obsessed with. They’re made so well and give the perfect farmhouse touch to the space. You can purchase the lamps here and the chandelier is called the “Folly”. The lamps also come in distressed black.  You can’t purchase directly from AHS Lighting, but they sell all their lighting on Amazon, Wayfair etc. The pricing is so good too, especially for the quality!

Master Bedroom Reveal ( Part One )

February 11, 2018 4 Comments

Hey beautiful friends! I’ve been itching to get on the blog lately, but between almost giving birth ( and trying to stay alive ), taking care of the home and three kids and various other things, I’ve had no time. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’ve had quite the battle lately with anemia, sciatica and my sore umbilical hernia. But i’m still trucking and *trying* to really enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy. Because this is it. Master Bedroom Reveal ( Part One )
