Our Modern Bohemian Rental [ Before + After ]

February 8, 2020 10 Comments

I was walking through our home this morning with a cup of coffee ( with a bit of almond milk ) and I had an idea to write a blog on our modern bohemian rental and how it looked before we moved in and after.

I went to my Instagram and put a poll up in my stories and 99% of you immediately said you wanted a blog. So… here we are!

Favorite Spaces Of 2016

December 10, 2016 Leave a Comment

Today was such a magical day in that it snowed 13 inches  and my precious Nana finally went to be with Jesus ( more about that in a few days once I’ve had time to process ). It was a hard day, but a special one. One I will never forget. I was up late tonight fitting in some extra cozy activities. Since we were snowed in we could only get a block over to get pizza and went next door to get coffee for the morning. We watched a Christmas movie, made hot coco and snuggled until midnight and here I am, writing a blog!

I was scrolling through all my old photos and thought it would be fun to do a roundup of all my favorite spaces of 2016.

I love to create different spaces and I want to share some of them with you. I realize not all of you have been followers for that long so it will be fun to showcase a few of my favorite spaces that I decorated.

Favorite Spaces Of 2016, Farmhouse Styled Rooms, Country Modern Rooms, Diy Ladder, Old Vintage Window, Botanical Prints and More www.whitepicketfarmhouse.com

This space was one of my favourites. I love seafoam it is one of my favourite colours. We also build that ladder in the background and I DIY’d that old vintage window and printed out botanical prints to put behind the glass. It was so bright & airy!

I miss this bed so much. It was a whitewash bed that Glen made me for my birthday but in true nature to our business, we sold it before I could really enjoy it. I’m trying really hard to not sell things I love anymore. But I just love how my plant pops agains all the white wood. I chalk painted that lamp and we made the night stands and bed.

This is one of my favourite shots EVER. Like, ever. This coffee table was made by us and I love how the black wood pops agains my pillows and the cactus plants and the mirror in the background.

This is a shot of our Vancouver Island Map. That’s where we’re from if you haven’t guessed that yet. Again, wood grain, pops of seafoam and faux plants ( gotta have my faux plants )

So pretty much everything you see besides the curtains we DIY’d or Made. Yep… The most expensive thing in this photo was the DIY Light Fixture from Home Depot. It was 160 I believe? We took the glass panels out of the fixture and I’m sure we’ve sold over 200 of them since. It’s become a hit!

Lastly, this will forever be my favourite room staging ever. I love everything except the rug. We made the TV Stand, Shutters and most of the decor is vintage or from Homesense.

Alright, sorry for that brief post. I will write more about what has been going on in our life in the next post in a few days.

Rustic Modern Bed

November 30, 2016 Leave a Comment

Lately I’ve been pondering. Well, really this whole month I’ve been in a deep self reflection mode. This year has been a tough one. Like, hard. But it’s also been full of some pretty great moments too.

No vacation, nice purchases or anything really exciting. In fact, it’s been very tight financially.  We did get pregnant, have a extremely hard pregnancy and then lose our baby. We had an awful move and went through some yucky stuff with our business but in between the negative moments there were moments that shone.

I’ve really been reflecting lately how grateful I am to be able to work from home. Most people do not get this luxury. I get to stay in my pyjamas all day long, get up when I want, go to bed when I want and do what I want.

I’m crazy blessed.

Yes, this job has been pretty insanely stressful, but if you can somehow deal with that there are so many amazing perks. I get to spend time with our two year old every single day. I’ve never missed one of her firsts. She makes me laugh every single day. I get live in my pyjamas. But one of the biggest perks of working from home is that I get to stage our home. This is my job.

I finally got an upgraded lens yesterday for my early Christmas present. To be honest, I’ve been putting tin purchase off for over a year. I hate spending money on stuff I need. But it was needed, BAD.

I’ve been living with my 50 mm lens on my camera and in my new home especially it makes it so I only get 1/5th of a room in my photo as the lens if very tight ( portrait lens ).. Am I talking nonsense to you right now?

Anyways, I went upstairs to shoot some photos of our newest style of bed that we have in our “catalog”. If you live under a rock, Glen and I own The Rugged Home. We build custom furniture. Ignore that I don’t have matching lamps as we lost one in the move. Ignore that the room is pretty empty still. Ignore the fact that the room is the farthest from being completed but I’m just so happy I can get my king bed in one shot! No more iPhone photos!!

Isn’t she pretty? My brother brought me over some cut up alder branches too for our front porch so I thought I would decorate my ‘Holiday Bedroom’ with some fun pieces. I literally HAVE to have greenery or some type of living/dead object in the room. So faux boxwood wreaths and cut up alder branches. I’m kind of addicted to wreaths… I almost put one above the bed and then realized I already had two on the mirrors.

So, what do you think of our take on this bed? It was a bed that I found on Pinterest.. it was a cheap bed from Overstock that most likely wasn’t real wood. So I begged Glen to build it for my birthday in September and it turned out so pretty!

Next thing I need is a tripod because all my photos are cricked.

Decorating With Maps

July 18, 2016 Leave a Comment

I’ve always wanted a nice big vintage map in my home and I knew exactly how I wanted to decorate with it. I love old elements mixed with new modern decor. That’s why our handbuilt minimalistic sofa table & mud cloth pillows, and rustic “M” blended perfectly with the theme I wanted.

When Danielle from Global Gallery messaged me and asked if I was interested in collaborating with them I jumped at the opportunity. I picked out this amazing print by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway ( A Map of British Columbia ). As soon as we got it, Glen got to building a frame for it. This was SUPER simple. We just stapled the print on the back of the frame. You could inset it, but come on, who has that kind of talent?

Also, sorry for my slightly small vocabulary. I sat back the other day and realized that I say the word “amazing” way too often. Apparently I just think so many things are amazing in life. That’s good though, right?

So even though this print isn’t a true vintage print, it has all the charm as a vintage print would have. We beat our wood frame up to give it a barn wood look and I feel like the entire piece came together.

For a massive impact in a room, spending under 100 dollars is pretty incredible.

I just love how it makes a statement but is so classy at the same time. I’m not a fan of colourful art work, it just isn’t my jam and doesn’t jive with my already muted decor.

Just a little background for you. The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway was founded in 1903 and spans from Prince Rupert, BC to Winnipeg MB ( Canada ). I love learning about my history and how our country came to be and function as a whole.
