When we first moved into our home 2.5 years ago, I cried. At the time, it was the only 3-bedroom rental on the market, and we had no choice but to rent it. I remember sitting on our Ektorp sofa in our living room, just looking at the empty home and feeling sorry for myself. The walls felt dark and isolating; the fireplace felt very dated. The house felt like a trailer and not the good kind; not that there is anything wrong with trailers, but in 2012 we had to live in one briefly when we lived in Saskatchewan, and it was the most isolating and depressing time ever.

Hello Friends,
I first off just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you for your overwhelming support on this blog. As much as this is my little corner of the world where I get to inspire, chat and be me – it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun without YOU, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
My goal for 2019 is to amplify my reach even further, but I will talk goals closer to New Years.
Today I really wanted to get on here and chat about Cozy Winter Decor after Christmas. I know for me, taking down the decor always makes me so sad. On one hand, I love to declutter and have a fresh home, but on the other hand I’m so sad to let all the coziness go.
Since before Christmas I’ve been scoring the Pinterest world on winter decor for after Christmas and I couldn’t find much – it mostly only came up with Christmas decor or regular decor. Well friends, today I’m here to share my take on Cozy Winter Decor that isn’t festive, yet still overly cozy.
I also want to be 100% honest with you, I haven’t taken my tree down yet because I just can’t. It’s so pretty.. but I’ve taken down everything else in our home.
I have an amazing eucalyptus garland that I was using back in Fall and I put it on my mantle with some twinkle lights. Those will be staying far into the New Year as I’m in a twinkle light obsession right now.
If you can remember from our Holiday Home Walk Through, I had these wall sconces above our kitchen window. I loved them in there, but mostly only I saw them as guests don’t really go into our kitchen, so I’ve moved them to our mantle. Yes, they do not work, it’s just the coziness they bring to our mantle. I also am bringing some darker tones into our home right now. Don’t get me wrong, still love white, yet I wanted a bit of dimension. I feel like the darker stains and shades in this room help cozy it up.
Also I need to mention something because it’s DRIVING ME NUTS. We planked the fireplace, you can find the DIY here. But due to the extreme heat from our gas fireplace, the planks have moved slightly making the sides uneven. We plan to get crown moulding for the top and sides, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.. so please don’t think we did that terrible job. It’s purely from the heat.
K, I got that off my chest, now let’s move on.
I reused the DIY Candles I made in December on my mantle and layered some artwork with my mirror. I love how mirrors totally open up a space and add light and I love the sweet piece of art adds a cozy factor. You can find that piece of art, here.
Back in December I painted the fireplace and I’m still loving it. There is still a ton of texture on my fireplace, yet it’s one colour and I can decorate around it easier!
I’m also still reusing the cream buffalo pillows I DIY’d in December, which I still need to do a tutorial on. I can’t sew – so If I can make them, so can you! I ended up making four and I love them!
I also added baskets on my wall for some more texture. Filling up blank walls with texture helps to add coziness to your home. It’s probably why I love the Farmhouse look so much as everything is so cozy. Basically, cozy is my middle name.
Lastly, I layered my living room rugs, which is a total trend right now. I found this faux cow hide rug and I knew I had to have it in my home. It’s only 179 PLUS an additional 10% off, so go grab it!! I’ll link it below also.
On the coffee table I just added a pile of ivory candles, old books and some prayer beads – easy peasy!
To create cozy winter decor you need to think: Layering, Textures, Creams and Warmth. Wallah! Easy Cozy Winter Decor!
So far, I’ve only decorated my living room and entrance, so that is all I’ve snapped for you today.. but as I decorate the other areas of my home, I’ll blog about them too!
I hope you enjoyed the few tips and you have fun undecorating your home and making it overly cozy!
What are you most sad about when the Holidays go?

Winter Table Inspiration From AFloral
Hello and happy Sunday Friends!
This weekend was a total whirlwind and I caught myself complaining because I wasn’t allowed to relax a ton, but then I had to totally give myself a slap in the face and be thankful for my opportunity to work and not have to go to a 9-5 job. I had to work all weekend, BUT I GET to be home with my kids all week. So, win win.
If you’re following me on my Instagram, you’ll know that I got some goodies in the mail from AFloral last week and on November 1st, I decided to do a bit of decorating. I wouldn’t call this a Christmas tablescape by any means, as it can be carried into the New Year, but it’s wintery and cozy!
Everything on this table, minus the plates and table runner are all from Afloral. The best thing about AFloral is that everything is super reasonably priced!
My sweet friend Addy from Homestead On The River Bed made this super gorgeous table runner for me. I used it as my starting point and placed the seeded eucalyptus garland on top. It has a natural wave in it and then I started placing the snowy alpine trees and gold aluminum candlesticks in between the branches. It ended up turning out so beautiful. The only thing I’m missing is candlesticks but everywhere in my small town was out of simple ivory candlesticks.
I also placed these mini wreath place card holders on our existing plates for added elegance. We don’t really use napkins, but I thought they would look cute even tied on the back of chairs.
I also bought some one dollar mini frosted trees and chargers that were 2.99 from Walmart. I then painted the chargers and distressed them. I love how they add so much texture to the table without being too colourful. I love Christmas and winter decor, but too much colour competing stresses me out!
This tablescape is super versatile and you can make it more simple or add more flowers or decor if you feel you need more. Since my table isn’t very big, I love this simple arrangement. It’s festive, yet not overbearing.
I’d love to hear what you think of this winter table decor in the comments!
Ways To Make Your Home Cozy After Christmas
Happy Monday Guys. I wanted to chat with you guys about Ways To Make Your Home Cozy After Christmas because I’ve heard so many of you complain about how empty and “cold” life feels after taking down all the cozy layers of decor, the pretty lights from the Christmas tree & being left with a blank slate. I do agree, it can be depressing when it is first all taken away. After cleaning all weekend, I realized that we’ve made our home so cozy without having the Christmas decor & tree lights. It’s all about textiles, layers and having something you can fill the empty walls with.
I don’t know why, but I’ve started to love Mondays. They’re fresh & new. I normally have a list of things for the week I need to get done and I love starting to tackle it. Call me weird, but Monday has become a fresh start for me.
I’m the kinda gal that is addicted to textures. I love different blends of fabrics, different shades of whites and creams and when all compiled together, it is so cozy. If you’re a minimalist at heart, don’t fret, I am too. There is a way to cozy up your space without having stuff all over. Yes, I’m not a fan of too much decor or decoration, it makes me feel claustrophobic. But if that’s your thing, you do you girl.
Okay.. so lets get down to the basics.
