The Perfect Thrifted Coffee Table

November 1, 2020 1 Comment

Do you guys ever have an experience where you feel like you’re the luckiest person in the world when you’re thrifting? You scored the COOLEST thing on the planet and you might possibly explode from excitement?

No? Just me?

Today I went thrifting and my first stop that I make I usually always find something. But this time, I hit the jackpot. I found THEE perfect thrifted coffee table. This wasn’t just any table. It was a table with hundreds of years of wear and tear. The kind of coffee table that is one-of-a-kind that you might never find again. So of course, without even thinking twice, I scooped it up!

Fun Fact: When I lived in Downtown Vancouver in 2007-2008 I found the coolest antique coffee table made out of an old barn. When we moved back to the Island, we had to sell it and I have never forgotten it! Well, until today as I’ve finally found an even better piece and I’m so excited!

We might not be able to move in our living room ( just kidding ) but it truly brings so much character into our space and is a great game playing table!

The Perfect Thrifted Coffee Table. I often go thrifting and yesterday I scored the perfect two hundred year old table. We cut off the legs as we believe it was a school desk in the 1800s and we made it into a large coffee table. We styled it in our modern coastal living room. The antique wood coffee table adds the perfect distressed look to the room.

The top is quite a bit lighter than the base from years of use. I’m thinking of hand sanding the base to help it match the top. But my Mom said to leave it as it gives it more charm. What do you think? Leave it or keep it? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

The maker of this table even used square nails – which is a telling sign of the age of this table. I keep saying the table because it was 28″ and we cut it down to 18″.

This is the perfect thrifted coffee table and makes our space feel SO cozy. I will be adding a sealer to the top as we spend a lot of time in this room, with drinks and I don’t want to damage the integrity of this piece. But I was googling the age of square head nails and they were used in the late 1700s to the 1830s. So this piece could be two hundred years old!

I’d love to hear what the coolest thrifted piece you’ve found! We’ve found some pretty cool treasures over the years and it always pays to check your local thrift store before you buy new!

I found an old English pine table on Craigslist years ago. It might have been used in a grain or candy shop because the front of the drawers can be dropped down when opened to let “ the goods” fall out. It is about 10 feet long and 2 feet wide and I paid $100 for it! I also lucked onto an old pine plate rack many years ago that I filled with flow blue dishes that I bought from a lady about 40 years ago. She was selling her whole collection and I found her listing in the classified ad section of the newspaper ( remember those adds)! I love finding treasures!
