A Tween Forest Wonderland

November 1, 2019 3 Comments

Good Afternoon all. As you know, we’re redoing three spaces in our home with items solely from Bed Bath and Beyond Canada. The three rooms I picked were our Nursery, The Boys Room and our Office ( currently storage room ).

If wanting to see the nursery transformation, click here.

The boys were sleeping on a hand-me-down Ikea bed that was wobbly to begin with. One of the slats actually broke, so we had a piece of wood propped up between the two bunks and lets just say, it was less than appealing and stable.

I wanted the boys room to feel grown up as our boys are almost 10 and 8.5, yet I added the rug for a juvenile feel to the room.

Let me just preface by saying that this room is extremely dark. The pictures are very bright, but that’s because I shot their room on a low shutter speed and an ISO of 6400. If you’re a photographer, that tells you how dark this room really is.

Since it’s so dark, we have a lot of cozy lighting in this space to add warmth, but that doesn’t make for great photos – so high ISO it is!

For our boys, we wanted something that was indestructible so we went with these metal bunk beds. To match we wanted a dark dresser that would hide stains so we went with this incredibly affordable black dresser.

Since most of the furniture in their room is dark and their walls are a mid tone grey, I wanted a rug that brightened up their space and would be easy to clean. At first I picked out this rug, but then realized it would just hide all the dirt and food that they would bring into this room, so we opted for this rug and I sprayed it with a protectant.

I love how this 8×10 rug mostly covers the entire floor, so it makes their room feel WAY cozier. It’s quite plush as well, so it will be fun for them to have friends over and play games on the floor and read.

I also added a few textiles to this room from Bed Bath and Beyond. These cozy throw blankets and these amazing boho pillows.

The last year we have really been keeping our home more minimal. Less is more and you don’t need a ton of things to live with. I Honestly feel like more mess that is in your home, the more mess that is in your life. At least, that’s just how I feel. When our home is organized, clean and minimal, I feel a lot more clear minded.
