Wrapping Presents Ethically

December 18, 2018 2 Comments

Hello & happy sweet Tuesday friends!

In our house we’re gearing up for our first out of three Christmas concerts tonight #momofmanykids and I thought I would jump on the blog quickly and share with your how I’m wrapping presents ethically this year.

Christmas is one of the most wasteful seasons and wrapping paper doesn’t have to clog the landfills – there are practical and ethical ways to wrap your presents while having them still look very pretty. I like the brown paper bag look as it looks super Scandinavian.

My parents have been wrapping our presents in brown packing paper for the last 15+ years and I’m finally taking their lead.

Not only does this save quite a bit of money, but it will also save your landfill as this paper is completely biodegradable and recyclable.

What do you need?

-Packing Paper

-Jute / Hemp / Yarn ( Whatever you want to tie the presents with )

-Tassels, Pom Poms, Fresh Cedar or Pine

-Clear Tape

For my presents, I decorated them with whatever I had around the house. Tassels are super easy to make, but I had a few of these beautiful jute tassels in storage, so I used them! We also collected some fallen cyperus boughs from our yard that I decorated the presents with.

It’s a win-win really. Ethical and free!

I will be 100% honest with you though – I did wrap four presents ( the ones from Santa ) In regular wrapping paper so we could differentiate between the two.. but next year I will have to come up with something else.

I like how this paper can be reused again if you like and it wraps really nice!

So where can you get brown packing paper? Easy! You can go to places like Uhual. They often have rolls for sale and/or can give you some. I got mine from my parents Print Shop as they use it to pack orders with. But post offices would likely have it too!

I hope this blog inspires you to recreate your present wrapping into more sustainable packaging. This year my sisters, mom and I ended up making a fun night out of it and we had some desserts and appys to eat. My sister even made some peppermint hot coco!

Anyways…. I’m off to get ready for the day!

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments about wrapping presents ethically.

I love this and will be starting this year! Thanks for this inspiration, they look so beautiful with the tree boughs! I bet it smells nice. My mom also used to add dried apple and orange slices that she made, or cinnamon sticks too.

Oh that would be amazing too! Cinnamon sticks might get added in still as I have more to go.
      Thanks for reading xo
