Chemical Free Dyed Easter Eggs

March 28, 2016 Leave a Comment

Just popping on for a quick sec to post this awesome tutorial my boys & I completed today. It was easy, not too messy and the end results are so pretty!

What you will need

-Head of purple Cabbage

-White Vinegar

-Edible Gold Paint

-Paint Brushes

-12 White Eggs

First you want to boil your eggs. Do not over boil them or you will get cracks in your eggs.

10 minutes on high is normally perfect!

Then cut up ( any size chunks ) and boil your purple cabbage. It’s a bit stinky after it’s done, so you want to throw this mixture out as soon as you’re done with it. Boil for 10 minutes, and then put on simmer for a additional 30. Once completed, put your eggs in a long dish and pour the juice over your eggs. Juice consists of ( Cabbage Juice & 1/4 Cup of White Vinegar ). You want to make sure they’re completely covered. I let sit for 3 hours, but you can leave them as long or short as you like. Also, if you take the eggs out at different times, they will be different colors. Our oldest, Hudson, thought it was so cool that a purple plant will turn eggs blue and green.

isn’t the color so pretty?? I didn’t mix the vinegar well enough into the cabbage liquid so that’s why ours look tie-dyed.

The boys couldn’t wait to paint these gold. I wanted pretty painting done, but sometimes as a mom you have to let your OCD/pretty factor go. So they painted them how they liked. Very concentrated and precise..

There super goofy little boys and this craft was a blast for them. In the above picture Cai was painting “Heaven”.

Here’s how our eggs turned out

Chemical Free Dyed Easter Eggs

I know Easter is over tomorrow morning, but this will be such a fun craft to do next Easter or even with homeschooling kids! The power of purple cabbage. It would even be very neat to see what color they turn if left in the mixture over night!

Hope you enjoy & had a amazing Easter, friends!
