I thought I’d switch things up today. I normally blog about home decor or DIY’s.. but today I wanted to share with you a few products that I’ve added to my routine in the last few months. Since starting on my Essential Oil journey in May 2016 of trying to live a more pure and healthy lifestyle, I’ve become more aware of the toxins in my everyday products like Makeup, toothpaste, deodorant and face wash. These products we trust and growing up I never questioned what was put into these products. It wasn’t until I was made aware of the “Think Dirty App” ( An App you can scan or look up basic drug store items to see their toxicity level), that I was in complete disgust. I mean, I was putting these chemicals into my kids bodies. I was giving them these products. Products that could cause disease and cancer down the road. I was enabling this, and that hit me really hard.
See these products we’ve grown up with, we use on our babies, the elderly.. we trust these brands. But yet, they’re killing us.
“Did you know that the average woman puts 80 chemicals on her body before breakfast time?” and “The Average body consumes 5 pounds of makeup in a year!”
I mean, ew.
According to the David Suzuki Foundation –
“Many chemical ingredients in cosmetics have never been tested for their effects on human health and the environment. Health Canada and Environment Canada are slowly working their way through the assessment of some 4,000 existing substances — including chemicals used in cosmetics — that have been categorized as potentially posing a risk to human health or the environment”
So I’ve been on a hunt. Since I was already with Young Living, I immediately switched my toothpaste over to Thieves toothpaste and Orange Essential Oil.
Did you know that store-bought brands ( not naming as I do not want to be sued ) you aren’t allowed to swallow? They’re toxic for our systems.
With Thieves Aromabright toothpaste, they actually recommend you swallow to cleanse your throat and back of mouth. Did you know that the leading cause of bad breath is because people don’t cleanse the back of their mouth/throat? Bacteria grows and it’s impossible to kill, even with mouthwash. Although mouthwash is a chemical crap storm you’re just throwing down the hatch.
I also like to put a drop of Orange essential oil on my toothbrush to whiten my teeth. But make sure you’re using a reputable therapeutic grade essential oil. Again, companies like sage, and other main stream brands are D grade and more for a nice smelling home. Be sure you’re using a reputable grade A essential oil like Doterra or Young Living.
This method has improved my dental quality. I’d highly recommend you try!
I also switched all of our deodorants ( Glens, mine and Hudson’s ) over to Young Living Deodorant. Did you know that deodorant is the leading cause in breast cancer? It’s something millions of people use on a daily basis, yet it’s killing us.
Next up, I switched my daily cleaner over to the Art System.. it has cleared my skin up significantly and is packed full of the best ingredients. Among those ingredients are very expensive essential oils like Melissa, Frankincense ( Known to diminish fine lines and wrinkles ) and Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oils.
My skin has been so much happier and brighter.
Since embarking on a healthier lifestyle when I bought my Premium Starter Kit last May, I’ve become way more aware of what I’m putting in and on my body, as well as the cleaners I use and basically anything that is airborne or touches my skin. Our skin is our biggest & most important organ in our bodies, protect it.
Also, thankfully to a friend, I switched over my makeup line too to Beauty Counter. It has way less crap in it. Plug it into the “Think Dirty” App and you will see.
If you think “Wow, those products are pricey” yes, they are, but they last 2-3 times the amount of time as a normal drug store item does as you use way less. You also have the peace of mind that these companies have put years into testing their products and the ingredients are right on the website for you to read and research.
Please hear me out when I say that this journey is not over. I still struggle with our foods because it seems everything these days, even our organic vegetables and fruits are laced with chemicals. I think the most important thing in our journey is that we have become aware and that we are trying to live as chemical free as possible.
I’m so thankful everyday for my Young Living Essential Oils and the effect they have had on my families health. We’ve switched and ditched so many of our products over the last year and I think if I hadn’t embarked on Young Living, I never really would be been aware of how many toxins and chemicals I was really consuming and slathering on my body every day.
Instead of popping a tylenol or two for a headache, I know can throw peppermint or M-Grain on my head for instant relief.
Instead of giving my kids tylenol or cold medication I have alternatives like Thieves, Oregano and Lavender.
The list really has gone on and on.
Hope you’re all inspired to go into your home and ditch some of your yucky products things that you think are safe like Dove Soap, Shampoo’s and Dish Soap seem to test the highest on the dirty scale.
I’m always here to help educate and guide you in a chemical free lifestyle. If you’re wanting to read more on my journey with Essential Oils click here.
