DIY High-End Curtains that Won’t Break the Bank

January 6, 2021 4 Comments

The kids’ “twin room” is nearing completion, and yesterday I focused on getting their curtains up. But it wasn’t without some tears and LOTS of time. I had been looking for so long for custom-looking curtains, and everywhere I turned, they were over 1,000 for four panels. I finally found some, and I want to show YOU how you can get high-end curtains that won’t break the bank!

If you’ve been following me for any time, you’ll know that I like to have a high-end look, but I refuse to spend the money to get it. I thrift, DIY, and build my way to get that look, and this blog is all about showing you how you can do it too!

If you’re interested in keeping tabs on the twin room makeover, head on over to my Instagram, where I have a whole highlight dedicated to their room.

DIY High-End Curtains That Won't Break The Bank. If your like a high-end look but you don't want to spend over 1,000 on curtains, this curtain tutorial is FOR YOU. All four panels cost under 100 dollars and there was no sewing involved!

So without further ado, let’s get started on where you can find high-end curtains that won’t break the bank! I’ll also link a few others I love too.

After searching for days for curtains that looked high-end but didn’t break the break, I finally took a chance on these curtains. Shipping only took a week, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality.

These curtains are actually blackout curtains, but we won’t be using them for that. I love the heaviness of the curtains!

Here’s the secret for Ikea curtains. Get these clips and this iron-on hemming strip to “sew” them to the perfect length.

They’re both super easy to use and Ikea provides step-by-step instructions on how to use both.

I have a window valance, but sadly the track was missing inside. I purchased this track and I couldn’t be happier. Super easy to install, comes in different lengths and 40 clips!

A few tips to make sure your curtains look high-end

  • Make sure you iron or steam them
  • Hem them. Having curtains that hang at a perfect length hang so much nicer
  • Hang with clips or hidden brackets if you can so they have a pleated look
  • Make sure your curtains are a decent weight

I noticed that you did not have your curtains hang all the way to the floor.

Wondering how you handle the dilemma of curtain length and baseboard heaters. It looks dumb hanging above the heater but you don’t want to cover the heater. I’m thinking of painting the heaters to match the wall so the heaters don’t stand out as much. What have you done?

Our curtains are only 1/2” above the floor.
We do not close ours over the baseboard, they stay open ☺️
We painted our heaters the same colour as the wall. But we will be making DIY heater covers shortly – so stay tuned for that DIY

These look amazing. How wide did you make your pleats? 6 per panel? Thank you for the wonderful ideas! Xo a fellow Canadian Jessica
