Oh my gosh you guys. I’m so excited to jump on the blog today and share with you my DIY Refinished Coffee Table. On the weekend my bestie and I drove down Island to try and find a coffee table. I did find one, but with a price tag of over 500.00 after taxes & I just couldn’t stomach that.
I went home feeling a bit defeated as I had already exhausted looking on Craigslist, Marketplace and other second hand sites. The next morning I checked one last time on Marketplace and a coffee table that I somehow missed, appeared. Below I’m attaching the coffee table I wanted and the coffee table that was for sale.

As soon as I got the coffee table home, I unscrewed the top so I could strip the finish off, and I immediately spray painted the legs. The legs took two coats of spray paint.
The top took about 35 minutes to completely strip down to the bare wood, and it was a bit too orange for me still, so I took 1 TBLS of white paint to 1 cup of water and white washed it. I left it for about five minutes and then wiped it off like a stain.
Here is the finished result:

Let me know what you think of my DIY refinished coffee table. I’m pretty in love and I actually think it turned out better than the original 500.00 one I liked.
I hope this inspires you to see the beauty in ‘old junk’ and before you spend money, try your hand at refinishing something in your home.
If you like this DIY, I would be honoured if you pinned it to Pinterest!
Hope you’re having a great week and don’t forget to check back on Thursday for my Spring Home Walk Through!

It is beautiful!! Love it more than the one for $500 for sure!!! Thanks for the tip with how to get the orange finish out after sanding also, I needed that.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Good luck with your project!
I love everything you create, I am so excited to have found your website and blog!! Can you please tell me how you stripped the table and what you used to strip it….did you just and it down? Thank You!
I’m so glad you found my site – welcome!! I used an orbital sander with 120 grit sandpaper to strip the coffee table and then I stained it!
Did you just satin it with the white wash mix you mention?
