How To Style A Sofa Table

April 13, 2020 4 Comments

I will say, I feel like I’m made for quarantine with the exception of not seeing our family and friends, I don’t mind being cooped up inside as my mind runs wild and we’ve been making tons of fun from new recipes, baking and DIY’s. But I’m not here to give you a run down on quarantine, I’m here to share a little tutorial on how to style a sofa table.

This morning I walked by our sofa table in our extremely tiny dining room and it just looked sad. I really wanted to revamp it today with items I had on hand.

I also wanted to take you along for the ride and give you a few steps so you can do your own sofa table. Styling can be so hard!

How To Style A Sofa Table

  1. Clean that mother. Clean the surface, vacuum your floors and wash your mirror if you have one hanging on the wall. This instantly made the area feel 110% better.

2. Find Pieces in your home that aren’t being used and that might have an organic feel to them. I love big colorless books, vintage decor pieces like this old fan from the 50’s.

3. Do my cement DIY on your old vases and turn them into high end vases that you would find at Restoration Hardware and McGee and Co. It’s super easy and takes no time at all. I did these two this morning.

4. Go outside or in nature if you don’t have a yard and find pretty stems, branches and flowers to use in your decor. I feel like greenery really makes a space come alive ( faux or real )

5. Layer artwork over a mirror or existing art. Or if you don’t have any art to use, make your own. Find my tutorial here.

6. Style in odd numbers. Even though it is a design “rule” to space things in odd numbers, it is also more pleasing to the eye. I like to style in 3’s or 5’s.

So if you look in the photo below I have 5 stems in 1 vase and 1 vase on two books. All equaling odd numbers.

Every idea is so pretty! I need to do some vase/planter transformations ASAP! What kind of ‘dirt’ did you use on your all white vases? I luv those. Do you this technique could be used on outdoor planters?

Thank you so much! So you can actually use dirt form outside – just make it a bit moist. But I used dust from Old Milk Barn.
